Hi, I’m Allison Mills.

I believe that we heal and grow in relationships with others and ourselves when we feel a sense of belonging, connection, and presence without judgment (individually, collectively, societally). The purpose of therapy is not to fix you—when we allow the unfolding of emotional experiences, it can lead us to the emergence of a deeper understanding of yourself, self-acceptance, and connecting to the power and participation you have in relationships. I bring my authentic self to the therapeutic relationship as a person with lived experience as a queer mexican and european GenX cisgender woman. I am also lucky to be a parent to two incredible children (my teachers) in an LGBT+ family.

I received an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, specializing in LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Psychology, and hold a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Southern California. My educational and career background combines degrees in psychology and fine art, along with a prior career as a creative director in tech & entertainment, which informs my work with individuals and couples from all walks of life, including many who express themselves creatively through art, dance, music, writing, and acting.

My Approach

My approach is relational and integrates psychodynamic, somatic, and postmodern therapies. Meaning that in our collaboration, we will work together relationally, in the “here and now,” and view the mutual, authentic, two-way relationship between therapist and client as an agent of healing and transformation. We can (always with your consent) practice slowing down and turning inward, carefully regulating your nervous system, and safely exploring your mind-body connection with curiosity to help you understand how you organize around core beliefs and deepen your embodied connection with yourself. Through a postmodern and LGBTQ+ affirmative lens, together, we can explore, deconstruct, and reauthor new narratives that celebrate your unique strengths, align with your values, and dismantle oppressions/normativity that may impact you. Where we go in your therapeutic journey centers around your values and individuality, honoring the diversity of all your intersectional identities. I aim to co-create an attuned, safe, and collaborative relationship infused with warmth, curiosity, presence, awareness, and attention.
